Body Sculture

“Ways of communication”

My body esculture was inspired entirely by Yoko Ono ,Cut piece, in which spectators are invited to snip off her clothing. It is  a performance art. The black dress is hand painted with a special black paint. With the color and the rigidity of the material I want to express my difficult to communicate in my second language, while Looking for different ways of doing it I designed this performance art, in which spectators are invited to do something to my dress like e.g. Drawing, painting, or simply rub the fabric of the dress. The combination of painting with the bleach generates a reaction and as response to this I give each person a newspaper flower , every flower has two positive messages in two different languages, English and Spanish.

Response to the chapter Touch, From the book A Natural History of The Senses by Diana Ackerman

After reading the chapter Touch, from the book A Natural History by Diana Ackerman, I was reminded that each of our senses are directly related to our emotions, thoughts and memories. When we explore our senses we are generating awareness of ourselves and the world that surrounds us. For example when we define a smell, no language seems to be able to describes a scent so we end up associating it with other ideas or experiences. When I am cooking my 10-year-old son very frequently says  “Mami it smells like the gods! “or “Something smells like cinnamon!” or At times he even says “It smells like a baby just born”. If we did not have memories of these events it definitively would be impossible to understand what we mean by these phrases.
